The commodities correcting trend that began in July continued through August, thus lowering the portfolio’s performance even as the broader stock indices improved somewhat. While the portfolio’s current holdings show net depreciation on the year, earlier profit taking combined with option-writing has buffered me somewhat from this vicious correction.
Long-term, the story remains the same — bullish prospects on the resource sector while holding large amounts of cash, with near 20% cash available even if all outstanding put options are exercised. With the MSM foretelling oil price crashes, housing rebounds and so much other silly talk, maintaining resolve can be difficult but investing in the resource sector is a volatile ride and we are all finding that out now.
As always, be safe out there and YMMV.
